This is dank, full of dirge and remarkably accessible even now. The music is as dark and gloomy as anything the band has ever produced, but as you listen back on it now, contains many of the trademark psuedo-industrial metal sounds that propelled the band’s career. The song attacks those who cheat on welfare and drug dealers, containing such provocative lyrics as, “If you don’t pay taxes, you shouldn’t vote, so get in line and get back on the boat,” and “Spike in your arm, no money for food, yet there’s plenty of gas in your BMW.” Despite their meaning, the band met with tons of resistance and controversy in Europe which they later parodied on their “live” album The Origin of the Feces. The album, originally titled None More Negative, launched the band’s career (which would later skyrocket with Bloody Kisses and October Rust). Like so many artists, he battled a lot of personal demons over the years, including cocaine and alcohol abuse and stints in both jail and a mental institution, but kept on bouncing back and by all accounts was looking ahead to what would have been Type O Negative’s eighth full-length at the time of his death.Slow, Deep and Hard is Type O Negative‘s debut album, released in 1991 on Roadrunner Records. With his rich baritone voice, pitch-black sense of humour and imposing yet welcoming presence, Pete practically bled charisma both on and off the stage. There is no denying that Peter Steele – who succumbed to a heart attack on April 14, 2010, at the age of 48 – was a unique presence in metal.
